Ideas and Suggestions in the North Lakes from ShowmeCumbria
ShowmeCumbria is based in the North of the English Lake District in Penrith which has good rail links and is ideally situated 6 miles from Ullswater Lake which is said to be the prettiest Lake of them all.
Penrith is an ideal base for people visiting Cumbria and the Lakes as is quite often missed by visitors who flock to the centre, Windermere and Ambleside, following the 'crowd' heading for 'The Lakes'
This area is surrounded by Castles, Stately Homes, ancient Monuments and interesting places to visit. Not to mention some of the best views in the whole of Cumbria and a great selection of Hotels, Guest Houses and places to stay.
Castles - There are 15 named Castles in Cumbria and over 190 defensible sites. Less than a 30 minute drive from Penrith there is Kendal, Appleby and Carlisle castle
Windermere and Ambleside can be reached in around 40 minutes using one of the most picturesque roads in the Lake District over Kirkstone Pass. It forms the start of ShowmeCumbria's favourite Tour throughout the English Lakes and you can't fail to be impressed by the views of the Lakes and Fells as you climb the 1500 feet above sea level.
Stone Circles - There are over 50 stone circles the best know of which are Castlerigg, Swinside and Long Meg all within easy reach and accessable to the public.
Stately homes - Too many to mention here but the famous ones Dalemain House, Hutton in the Forrest, Greystoke Castle, and Sizergh Hall are all pretty close.
We even have Alpacca & Llamas living here in Cumbria!
Having spent many years driving the roads and tracks in Cumbria we are very good at recommending and finding areas for PHOTOGRAPHY and have had many professional photographers from all over the world tour with us over the years.
We can also put together tours for 'like minded groups' wanting to visit gardens, historical sights and other sites of interest.
Over the past seven years we have toured with Historians, photographers, geneologists, archiologists and botanists and groups from just about every corner of the world, well..... almost!
Cumbria and the lake district has something to see whatever the time of year and out tours take place ALL YEAR ROUND, not just during the summer months or when the sun is shining!
Why not take a 'WHISTLE STOP TOUR'?
Take a train to Penrith in the North Lakes and get collected from the station and whisked off on a personal tour of the Lake district.
Spend 4 hours or more exploring the Lakes and passes, maybe even a lunch stop or picnic break before being returned in time to rejoin your train to continue your journey onward to Scotland or back to your chosen destination.
With a little planning, you could even be collected from the Settle-Carlisle railway at Langwathby and take a scenic tour of the Northern Lakes!
We can provide an itinerary to make sure you maximise your time spent in the area as we have done on many occasions for clients travelling on to Scotland.
Why not give us a call if you are visiting the UK on business, Take a break and see the Lake district for the day!
